Designing the Glowing Forest
A peek into the half-kilometre walk through trees wrapped in shifting light — and how it'll work after dark.
The Glowing Forest is the centrepiece installation of Lit Galaxy 2027 — a half-kilometre walk through more than 800 mature trees, each wrapped in colour-shifting lighting that pulses gently with the energy of the festival.
Our installation lead has been building this kind of work for fifteen years across festivals in Europe, Japan, and Quebec. The Lit Galaxy version takes everything she's learned about how people move through living installations and adds a generative audio score that drifts in volume as you walk deeper into the trees.
The forest comes alive at dusk and stays lit until 2 AM each night. The best photo moment is roughly twenty minutes after sunset, when the canopy still has a hint of blue sky behind it and the installation is already at full saturation.
