Accessibility at Lit Galaxy
The festival, and this site, are designed so that everyone can show up under the stars. Here's what's in place — and how to ask for what isn't.
On the festival grounds
Wheelchair access
Hard-surface pathways across all primary zones, wheelchair-accessible viewing platforms at every main stage, and ADA-style toilets at every rest area.
Companion passes
Complimentary companion passes are available for any attendee who requires personal care support. Request via the Accessibility team before arrival.
Sensory care
Quiet zones (low-light, low-noise) operate adjacent to every main stage. Noise-cancelling headphones available on loan at the Accessibility Hub.
Medical & support
First-aid teams stationed across the grounds. The Accessibility Hub is a single point of contact for any onsite need — service animals welcome.
Visual accessibility
High-contrast wayfinding signage, large-print festival maps available at every Info Point, and audio-described tours of art installations by request.
Hearing accessibility
ASL interpretation at every headline set and at the daily press briefings. Request 14 days ahead for guaranteed interpreters at specific sets.
Have a need not listed here? Email access@litgalaxy.ca at least 14 days before the festival so the Accessibility team can plan with you.
On this website
- Keyboard-navigable across every page, with visible focus indicators that meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast
- Reduced-motion mode honoured — all parallax, tilt, and decorative animations stop when prefers-reduced-motion is set
- Screen-reader-friendly markup with semantic landmarks, ARIA labels on interactive controls, and live-region announcements on form submission
- Image previews open in a focus-trapped dialog that closes on Escape; nothing is hidden from screen readers behind decoration
- Colour contrast tested against the dark galaxy theme — body text minimum 4.5:1, UI controls minimum 3:1
We're not finished — if you hit a wall on this site, tell us. Email access@litgalaxy.ca and we'll get on it.
